For your consideration: Dark Star- 8/21/72

I love this Dark Star and Keith is excellent throughout. Great comping and textural playing through the whole song (wah-wah piano included), but things heat up at around the 17 minute mark and we get a nice long tiger jam (and aborted A.M.Dew) that leads into a unique and jazzy jam lead by Keith. Jerry and Bob actually sit out briefly and open a nice space for Keith, Phil, and Billy to do their thing (22 min). Great moment. There are other places where Keith is a strong force in the direction of jams, but this one has always stood out to me.

Never heard it? Wow.
This is an absolutely great call where highlighting a Keith moment is concerned. And when Jerry chooses to join the Keith/Billy/Phil interlude mentioned at the ~22m mark, it only gets better.
A perfect example at the Dead at the height of their powers- the Great Musical Discussion. Everyone listening, engaged and playing their rears off.
And fpr those disappointed that they didn't veer into Morning Dew, there's another remarkable Dark Star three days later at the same venue, and this time they come out of the Star and do the Dew.
Cake and eat it too! My favorite.......
